JOB SUMMARY:

 –Function as a New Media team member to produce original news and information and adapt VOA news and information content to publish on the VOA Indonesian Service Website and other social media sites, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

–Perform difficult translations and adaptations of a variety of centrally prepared English-language news and features into idiomatic Indonesian.

–Conduct live or taped radio interviews on political economic, scientific, cultural and other subjects.

–Select and edit multimedia enhancements to add value to VOA reports and take full advantage of the web’s capabilities.

–Coordinate with other members of the staff and contractors who contribute to the Services web and mobile-based activities.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Requirements for the Position: Applicant must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience directly related to this line of work AND must be bilingual in Indonesian and English with the ability to fluently speak, research, write and accurately translate in both languages.

You must meet one of the following three experience/education requirements to be eligible for this position: 

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience includes: Experience with website content management systems, HTML and web design. Creating original content for New Media and adapting/editing print, audio and/or video material for the web, social media, and for mobile devices. Also experience working on the Indonesian New Media market including preparing content for websites and social media that is attractive to Indonesian New Media consumers.

Or 

Education: Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or the successful completion  of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or completion of all requirements for an LL.M.

Major study — journalism, communications, history, economics, political science, international relations, or other fields related to the position.

Or

Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combination of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.

Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a security investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The security investigation will include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.

Examinations Required: Candidates who meet all education and/or experience requirements must demonstrate their knowledge and ability in language writing and translation/adaptation through successful performance on a written examination and their ability to voice material for radio broadcast in a voice audition. You will be notified as to whether you will be scheduled for testing once qualification determinations have been made. APPLICANTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THEIR OWN EXPENSES TO AND FROM TEST SITE.
